Every designer faces a variety of challenges throughout the design process — from research and finding inspiration to time management and perfecting their work. Over time, these small “problems” become part of the daily workflow, something designers grow to accept as routine. And within this routine, we feel safe.
But this very sense of safety can keep us stuck in our comfort zone. To move beyond it, we need to take a step forward — face our fears, embrace new challenges, and gain skills that expand our creative range. Such a step brings fresh momentum, a “power boost,” and awakens the desire for new knowledge, collaborations, and opportunities.
After two years in which my main role was being a mom to two little troublemakers, I’m returning to the creative world with fresh energy. I finally tackled designing my own website — a project I had been pushing aside for a long time. For designers, a portfolio is often one of the most difficult and challenging projects. As the saying goes, “the shoemaker’s children go barefoot” — and mine were barefoot, naked, and starving for quite a while. But in the end, I genuinely enjoyed the creative process.
Every designer needs a challenge. Each one is different, and we all tend to resist them a little. But once we dive in, we realize that our work is truly fascinating — because there’s never a shortage of new challenges to embrace.
